Teresa Champion Dance Academy was founded in early 1970s by Teresa And Willie “El Curro” Champion.  To offer dance classes in Flamenco and Mexican Folklorico  to preserve the  Hispanic Culture on the Southside of San Antonio. 

 

Teresa and Curro have produced hundreds of dancers and instructors over their careers.  They both appeared in the  movie “The Alamo” with John Wayne and toured the country and Europe with artists such as Bill Cosby and Cantinflas.

Teresa Champion continues to help grow the Arts and Dance Community in San Antonio and shares her passion for dance with many aspiring young dancers. 

 

Teresa’s Dedication to the Arts was recognized in the 80s and was inducted into the San Antonio Women’s  Hall of Fame  and most recently recognized by CPS Energy H.O.P.E. Award. 

Teresa Champion Dance Academy Continues to grow and develop aspiring dancers to become professional level dancers.

Teresa is joined by her grand-daughter,

Annette Champion Flores in continuing the legacy of dance in San Antonio.  Annette holds an MFA in Choreography from Jacksonville University and is a Professor at San Antonio College. She is the Artistic Director of Award– Winning Viva Dance Troupe.

Teresa Champion Dance Academy is a family environment.  

Allowing our student's to share in the creative process and giving them the opportunity to perform for audiences of all kinds.  Teresa Champion Dance Academy has had the privilage over the years to perform for Governor Ann Richards, Presidential Candidate Bob Dole, The Spurs and Silver Stars, King William Fair, Market Square, and El Rey Feo Association.  

 

Our dancers have studied with Master's that include Timo Lozano, La Presy, Pilar Riojas, Al Blackstone, Barry Kyle, Quinton Weathers, Joe Tremaine, Mandy Moore, Nick Drago, and many more.

 

Our Mission is to preserve the art and culture of San Antonio through Dance and Music.  To enrich the lives our families and our dancers through  the art of Flamenco, Mexican Folklorico, Ballet, Tap, Jazz, and Contemporary Dance.
